1ST PLACE WINNERS – A TEAM, HEAVYWEIGHT AND FLYING ASIAN RACING, MEDIUMWEIGHT

Redding, CA – The first annual Shasta SuperMoto 24 Hour Team Endurance Race faced intense weather conditions but concluded successfully on February 4th, 2024. Of 12 racing teams, A Team dominated the Heavyweight Class with 1596 laps, while Flying Asian Racing led the Mediumweight Class with 1519 laps.

The track configuration was over ½ mile long, with a straight as long as three football fields, and had seven turns, which included one 180° turn, and two 90° turns. Twelve teams were lionhearted enough to take on the challenge of racing in the pouring rain for 24 hours on a track that proves difficult to manage during the daytime in dry weather conditions.

The 12 race teams included two all-women teams: Slick Chickz Team A and Slick Chickz Team B; teen riders, with the youngest being Thomas Krasko at age 15 on Team Frozen Bros; and riders over 60, with the oldest being Rod Wetmore at age 67 on Team Gray Haired Piston Pushers.

The competition was hot! Even though the race took place on a cold, wet track surface, the racers did not pull back a bit to manage energy and equipment and kept a blistering pace with rain-soaked riding gear and rain-and rubber-splattered goggles, surprising staff, family, and onlookers watching.

Remarkably, all but one team that started the race saw the checkered flag. The one team that did not finish put a bike together on a prayer and a wish right before the race started, and the bike gave up the ghost after 19 hours of competition. Unfortunately, the team did not have a backup bike to complete the race.

This race was an amazing experience and brought many tears as the teams passed under the checkered flag to finish the race. The 2 teams finishing 1^st won a $500 cash prize donated by Good Times Pizza and Things in Palo Cedro, California, but each racer secured the right to claim victory and boasted the survival of the “24 Hours of Shasta”! More than 70 racers bonded for life during an event that only they can describe.
